Fic Rec Backup

Major Fic Rec List

This is a backup for my original LJ post, so the usernames aren't IJ ones but LJ. Sorry for the chaos :). - This is a rather incomplete and very badly* organised list of some of my favourite stories, recently (re-)read. You know those you read and catch yourself licking your PC screen, drooling onto the keyboard, feeling something shatter inside your heart. The ones that make you fall off your chair because you're laughing so hard, the ones that make you cry, that make your heart ache in their beauty. Oh, and porn. There should be lots of porn, too :). Enjoy! (Previous Fic recs - mostly LotR RPS and some BtVS - can be found here). I will keep updating this list ever so often.

Older recs

Title: Just like heaven
Author: [info]kittylass
Pairing: Orlando / Sean
Rating: PG
Genre: Short slice of life
Why I loved it: Orlando's insecurity is endearing without turning him into a 13 year old girl and Dom is nothing short of hilarious. Even though it's a very short story it feels very real and like part of something bigger and the ending is just lovely.

***

Title: Broken China
Author: [info]wynterhawk
Pairing: Orlando / Sean
Rating: NC 17
Genre: PWP
Why I loved it: Hot and sexy with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek on both sides. I really liked these two versions of them, Orlando acting all coy (but not really) and Sean being really subtle and diplomatic about what he wants ;).

***

Title: Hallelujah One
Author: [info]gisellslash
Pairing: Orlando / Sean
Rating: R
Genre: Slice of life
Why I loved it: Based on the song "Hallelujah", cover by Jeff Buckley (it's not a song fic though ;)). The images, the metaphors in this almost killed me. If you don't only want to read how love feels when it's too strong, too much, too intense but want to feel it, this is the story for you. Breathtaking.

***

Title:Downriver
Author: [info]legomyarrow
Pairing: Orlando/Karl, Sean/Viggo
Rating: R
Genre: Plotty Western AU
Why I loved it: I'm always amazed by the author's talent to tell a complex and well thought out plot and make it all interesting and moving and thrilling, but aside from "The Archer" this is my favourite fic from her. The characterisations are quite brilliant and feel very independent (without feeling ooc - if there is such a thing in RPS). It's one of those stories I'd give my right arm for to see it on a movie screen.

***

Title: Battle of eyes
Author: [info]rotpunkt and [info]helena_s_renn
Pairing: Sean / Viggo
Rating: NC17
Genre: PWP, light BDSM
Why I loved it: I really liked the simplicity of this. The scenery the authors create, the dialogue and the actions are reduced to something very potent, very clear. Because of this you can practically hear the 'click' when the balance of power shifts and to me it was an unusual but very believable turn of events.

***

Title: Healthy, wealthy, and wise
Author: [info]caras_galadhon
Pairing: Sean / Viggo
Rating: PG
Genre: Cowboy AU, slice of life
Why I loved it: The author has a huge talent to capture sceneries as well as emotions, using a simple yet always inventive and highly evocative language. This story has a beautifully light and yet contemplative flow to it and features one of the loveliest impressions of Viggo I've read in a long while.

***

Title: Focus
Author: [info]winterlive
Pairing: Jared / Jensen
Rating: NC 17
Genre: Romance, first time
Why I loved it: The wondeful old 'Hey, I'm not gay, Me neither, And then there's kissing' thing, done with so much care for detail and realism, it's funny and deadsexy, awkward and oh so sensual. And 10.000 words? Way too short ;)

***

Title: Untitled fun
Author: [info]esorlecar
Characters: Jared and Jensen
Rating: Gen
Genre: Humour
Why I loved it: Extremely funny and very real sounding take on the old 'they write WHAT kind of stories about us on the internet?!' - Short and hilarious.

***

Title: Snapshots
Author: [info]titheniel
Pairing: Jensen / Jared, Chris Kane / Steve Carlson
Rating: NC 17
Genre: AU, angst, romance (wip)
Why I loved it: Right. So, I don't do angst and h/c because it makes me cringe/eyeroll or cry/hide. I don't do wips either because I hate the suspense. But *points at genre* I loved this. The angst is believable and realistic and (the most important thing) is neither masochistic nor just means to an end. The story has got careful characterisation that never seems forced or overdone, it has loads of complex supporting characters (I especially love Christian Kane in this) and a flow of storytelling that pulls you right in

***

Title: Under my skin
Author: [info]jadedpen
Pairing: Jared / Jensen
Rating: NC 17
Genre: PWP
Why I loved it: Short and scorchingly hot. Combines two of my fav things in a pwp - blowjobs and dirty talk. Just guh.

***

Title: Trust me not to think
Author: [info]audrarose
Pairing: Jared / Jensen
Rating: NC 17
Genre: slice of life
Why I loved it: This is a part of a series but can also be read as a standalone. I really like Jared's pov in this, the growing jealousy (usually something I really don't like) works well here and fits the character without turning him into an ass. Add a rather prettily drunk Jensen and hotness :).

***

Title: The games men play
Author: [info]dark_reaction and [info]miss_begonia
Pairing: Jared / Jensen
Rating: NC 17
Genre: Humour
Why I loved it: The banter in this had me snort coffee out of my nose, it's that funny. Jared's just this side of mental and Jensen's got determination to match. Now, add gay chicken to the mix...

***

Title: Occupational Hazards
Author:
[info]rionaleonhart
Characters: Jensen, Sam, Jared, Dean
Rating: Gen
Genre: RPS / FPS x-over
Why I loved it: Over hiatus, Jared is possessed by Sam. - A simple idea, extremely well executed. Jensen's voice is hands-down-perfect, the way he tries to make sense of the madness is both wonderfully funny and endearing.

***

There might be spoilers contained up to the finale of the third season. Please see the header and the warnings in the original posts!

Title: The Miner's Lamp / Ruddy with the light / I see you better in the dark
Author: [info]hansbekhart
Pairing: Sam / Dean
Rating: Pg13 to NC 17
Genre: Slice of life, first time
Why I loved it: Clear and straight writing that is so very lyrical at the same time. Makes my heart skip a beat. Honestly, it's that brilliant.

***

Title: Life is a banquet (and some poor suckers are starving to death
Author: [info]meadowmines
Pairing: Sam / Dean
Rating: NC 17
Genre: plotty, smutty humour
Why I loved it: ..in which Sam and Dean are cursed and hungry all the time. The story alone is downright hilarious and the audiobook is recorded in quite high quality and she's got their voices nailed frigging perfectly, Sam's exasperation and Dean's total obliviousness are brilliant. Link to the podfic read by [info]sadcypress

***

Title: Backfire
Author: Maygra
Pairing: Sam / Dean
Rating: NC 17
Genre: PWP
Why I loved it: Sam sleeps, Dean thinks. Dean's voice is beautifully captured in this, his dry humour as well as his worry and love for Sam - and it doesn't hurt that the sex is smoking hot as well :).

***

Title: Vocabulary
Author:
[info]innie_darling
Characters: Sam, Dean, John
Rating: Gen
Genre: Pre-series, slice of life
Why I loved it: This is one of the stories that get even more brilliant every time I re-read it. The idea is as simple as brilliant and the author captures the tone of voice of a 16 year old Sam so well, you can hear his voice while reading this. Seriously, even if you only read NC17 stories, you need to make an exception for this one. It's amazing. Also available as (brilliantly executed) podfic read by Chiak.

***

Title: Are you close?
Author: [info]lynne_mitchell
Pairing: Sam / Dean
Rating: NC 17
Genre: phone sex PWP
Why I loved it: Phone sex stories are a tricky thing because they can so easily go wrong. This here is the best example how to do it right. And blow my mind. Very, very hot.

***

Title: Five Things Involving Winchesters and Restrooms
Author: [info]stephanometra
Pairing: Sam / Dean
Rating: NC 17
Genre: slice of life, five ;)
Why I loved it: If done right, the five things stories are always entertaining. This is downright fantastic, all five scenarios are very different from the others, there's porn, and banter, and brotherly love, and action and general awesomeness :)

***

Title: Stories for Sixteenth Birthdays
Author:
[info]albydarned
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17, 16 year old Sam
Genre: Slice of life (20.000 words), first time
Why I loved it: If you ever only read one preshow Sam/Dean story, this should be the one. I loved every single word of this, Sam's voice is spot on sarcastic, introspective, moody, witty, loving-his-brother 16 year old, it couldn't get any better. Dean's characterisation through his eyes is amazingly well balanced, the annoying habits and the endearing ones, the smartass side and the almost reverent one. The build up to the NC17 part is so very well written and I was so in-the-moment, that I was almost disappointed when it was over and they got on with it ;). It's uncomplicated storytelling, very clear and simple language with humorous winks in just the right places and well, it's just a joy to read.

***

Title: This Grace we sustain
Author: [info]drvsilla
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Genre: PWP
Why I loved it: My, this is dirty. And so them. Aside from that (as if that wasn't enough) I really liked how the authors sells that they're not jealous, never jealous because they are so close that there's no reason for it. If that makes sense. I'm still a bit incoherent from teh dirty :).

***

Title: The Anatomy of want
Author: [info]mikale
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Genre: PWP
Why I loved it: I love stories that focus on a specific trait and / or body part and worship the hell out of it. This fic does that, only you get 12 different focus points for the price of one. Very hot, very evocative and always with almost reverential lust.

***

Title: Waiting Games
Author: [info]nutkin
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: NC17
Genre: 14.466 words of brilliance :)
Why I loved it: If there is such a thing as the perfect Sam pov during season 2, then this is it, and one of the best things of this is that he's brooding and yet not angsty, that he seems introverted and yet never cut off from Dean. The endless miles on the road and the silence between the two brothers is captured maginificently in this story. It's hard to pin down why it's so brilliant - Sam's long, sometimes drifting like, sometimes very focussed internal musings are intercut with bits and pieces of dialogue with Dean, both of them so very in-character there that you can actually hear them. Everything else, the hunts, the people and scenery around them, is something Sam notices and thinks about, but it all comes down to Dean in the end.
